Update from Kuala Lumpur

I know I know...I suck at keep you all updated! My bad. You've probably been waiting anxiously (ahem...Jane) so here it is.

I arrived in Singapore April 22nd on a very very hot, humid Friday afternoon. Spent the afternoon looking for the places I needed to be on the 23rd and had dinner with a disgruntled cousin (disgruntled because I have a very very limited diet!) :P.

Anyway, later that evening, I found out that the interview I was supposed to have the 23rd got mixed up. He thought it was the 22nd (but of course I hadn't arrived yet)! So that meeting didn't take place but instead, I met up with one of his associates the morning of the 23rd. Basically all that was, was a rundown on the interview process, not only with the business but with the other chiropractic businesses in Singapore. That same afternoon, I took off to see another doctor (an american) who's been practicing in Singapore for the past 10 years.

He's got the type of practice where his assistants perform the physiotherapy treatments (he has 3 assistants) and he does the adjusting. Only problem is, when I went back on Monday to observe him in practice, I found out he is rather anal and rather short tempered. Not quite something I want to work with in the long run. So although the prospect is good, I don't believe that this is my first choice.

Monday at lunch, I met up with another doctor, a Singaporean this time. So what he's offering, is that we work in the same office and I will be performing the physiotherapy while he's adjusting and then switch. So offering a base salary plus bonus as well. This seems rather promising as he is also a Palmer graduate and is open to me doing upper cervical care. Only difficult is that he has nothing concrete at the moment. He is also in the process of moving clinics and so everything is kind of up in the air.

Monday evening, I had dinner with another doctor. But pretty much that interview got shot down as the first thing he said to me was, "You're so small, I don't think your size will allow you to adjust 40-50 patients per day." Oh well, his loss...

Anyway, Tuesday, I met up with the president of the Singapore association. She's not really hiring, but I figured she would be a good person to talk to regarding the state of the profession in Singapore as well as who she thought might be good to work for. An objective opinion you might say.

Wednesday, yesterday, I flew in KL. Missed the runway the first time, and circled around and around for an hour...sigh. Anyway, as soon as I got off, ran off for my interview here. Again very promising. I met up with them again today. Basically a husband and wife team where the wife is the chiro and the hubby is the business side. They're trying to expand to all of SE Asia. So they do CBP (for those chiros out there) and are also very very open to the idea of me doing upper cervical work. They've also told me they would open a clinic for me in Singapore (as they don't have one yet) and that the length of contract would be whatever I feel comfortable with (as short as 12 months). Which would be perfect as I don't know how my skin will react to living in a tropical climate. But once again, didn't talk too much about renumeration. I'll be getting that in an e-mail soon.

So to make a long story short, 3 prospects, 2 of which I am seriously considering. Wish me luck!
Next step after I finally decide is when to start and where to live lol!

Time for another update...so I've been told

Hey all! I'm back in Calgary again. Not for long, but how long is that? I have no clue. I guess we'll see where God takes me. This past week has been very confusing for me...to say the least. I've been getting this feeling that I did pass this darn licensing exam (which is great! I'm not complaining if I do...but at the same time if I don't...well, we've all seen how upset I was the last time...). I've also been getting the really bad (though irrational...nothing to really base this feeling on) that things aren't going to work out in Singapore for me. So...on to plan...what letter is it now...D? Yeah...I think so...
Plan D:
1) Get my license (if my feeling turns out right this is one less step!)
2) Get a business loan
3) Work on paper work, health talks, forms, etc etc in preparation to open a clinic
4) Take a business management course at some point before opening day?!
5) Find a piece of commercial property...somewhere in the Lower Mainland
6) Renovate the space
7) Go on this family trip to Europe (end of Aug)
8) Last minute details to open
9) Open Oct 1st...if all things work out.

Of course...if I don't get my license...it might be on to plan E...which does not yet exist...

Suffice it say, I'm really stressed. Even if I'm not working...and I'm blabbing on and on...time to finish. Any thoughts all? Could really use some advice :)
